Programs & Services

Supervised adult daycare, memory support, health monitoring, culturally appropriate meals, and engaging daily programming in Addis Ababa.

Golden Years Adult Daycare offers a full suite of daytime services under one roof—so families have a single, trusted partner instead of juggling multiple providers. Every service is designed for older adults in a group setting with professional supervision.

1

Supervised Daytime Care

Participants spend the day in a safe, structured environment with trained staff always present. We maintain predictable routines, clear supervision during activities and meals, and secure check-in and checkout procedures so families always know who is caring for their loved one.

  • Structured daily schedule with flexibility for individual needs
  • Secure facility with monitored entry and exit
  • Personalized support plans reviewed with families
2

Culturally Appropriate Meals & Snacks

Food is central to comfort and health. We serve familiar Ethiopian dishes and snacks prepared with attention to dietary restrictions, swallowing needs, and religious or cultural preferences. Mealtimes are social events that encourage connection, not rushed chores.

  • Nutritious breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks
  • Accommodation for diabetes, low-sodium, and soft-texture diets
  • Hydration reminders throughout the day
3

Social, Recreational & Therapeutic Activities

Isolation accelerates decline; engagement restores purpose. Our activity coordinator leads group programs that stimulate body and mind—gentle exercise, music, crafts, conversation circles, and seasonal celebrations—scaled to each participant’s abilities.

  • Group and one-on-one engagement options
  • Movement, creativity, and reminiscence programming
  • Quiet activities for those who prefer lower stimulation
4

Light Health Monitoring

We are a daycare center, not a hospital—but we take baseline health seriously. Staff provide medication reminders, periodic vital checks, and observation for changes in mood or mobility, with prompt family notification when something needs follow-up.

  • Medication reminder support per family instructions
  • Blood pressure and wellness checks as appropriate
  • Documentation shared with families and providers
5

Memory Care Support

For participants with early-stage dementia or memory loss, we offer structured engagement that reduces confusion and agitation. Consistent staffing faces, visual cues, memory boxes, and failure-free activities help participants feel capable and calm.

  • Routine-driven programming to reduce anxiety
  • Sensory-conscious spaces for de-escalation
  • Staff trained in dementia-aware communication

Target Population

If you are unsure whether adult daycare is appropriate, these profiles reflect who thrives in our program. Contact us for a personalized conversation.

Older Adults (65+)

Seniors who benefit from socialization, supervised meals, and light assistance during daytime hours while living at home with family.

Individuals with Memory-Related Conditions

Adults with early-stage dementia, mild cognitive impairment, or memory loss who need structure and safety during the day—not 24-hour residential care.

Families & Caregivers Needing Daytime Support

Households where the primary caregiver works outside the home, manages multiple responsibilities, or needs predictable respite during the week.

Program Structure

Golden Years balances activity and rest. A typical day follows a reliable rhythm so participants feel oriented and families know what to expect:

  1. Morning Welcome & Light Exercise

Warm greetings, health check-ins, gentle stretching or walking, and orientation to the day’s schedule. This period eases transitions and wakes up the body gently.

  2. Midday Cultural & Social Activities

Group conversations, music, crafts, games, or faith- and culture-informed programming. Activities are adapted so everyone can participate at their own level.

  3. Shared Meals & Nutrition Break

Communal breakfast and lunch with culturally familiar food, assistance as needed, and time to socialize at the table.

  4. Rest Periods

Quiet rooms for napping, reading, or low-stimulation relaxation—essential for older adults who need downtime to stay regulated.

  5. Afternoon Engagement & Pickup

Lighter activities, outdoor time when weather permits, snack service, and preparation for checkout with family updates as needed.

Facility & Accessibility

Our center is designed for older adults and participants with mobility or sensory needs. We invest in an environment that feels welcoming—not institutional—while meeting practical safety requirements.

  • ADA-compliant layout with wheelchair-accessible entrances, corridors, and restrooms
  • Safety features including handrails, non-slip surfaces, and clear signage
  • Open group areas for activities and dining, plus quiet rooms for rest or sensory breaks
  • Comfortable seating, natural light, and temperature control suited to Addis Ababa’s climate
  • Layout that supports easy supervision while preserving personal space and dignity

Funding & Payment Options

We believe families deserve transparency about how care is funded. Golden Years is building sustainable services through multiple channels:

Private Pay

Families may pay daily or monthly rates based on attendance schedule and level of support required. We provide clear fee schedules before enrollment with no hidden charges.

Insurance (Future)

We are working toward acceptance of CBI and private insurance options. Contact us for the latest updates on covered services and enrollment requirements.

Grants & Public Funding

As a mission-driven organization, we pursue grants and public funding for aging services to expand access and subsidize care for families with financial hardship.

Community Partnerships & Donations

Philanthropic partners, faith communities, and individual donors help us upgrade equipment, fund scholarships, and sustain programming. We welcome conversations with organizations aligned with elder care.

Outreach & Partnerships

Golden Years grows through relationships with the institutions families already trust. We actively collaborate with:

Healthcare Providers

Hospitals, clinics, and physicians who refer patients after discharge or identify families needing daytime supervision. We share documentation and welcome care coordination.

Community & Cultural Organizations

Senior associations, community centers, and cultural groups that connect us with families seeking culturally responsive elder support.

Faith-Based Institutions

Churches and religious communities that care for aging members and want a trusted local partner for weekday respite and engagement.
